The Natural Resources Council of Maine is a non-profit organization that works to restore, protect and conserve Maine’s natural environment.  They have over 12,000 supporters nationwide, who work together and use science and policy to protect Maine’s natural resources.  One of their focuses includes improving the water quality of Maine’s rivers and reducing the amount of toxic chemicals released into the rivers.  A simple site search reveals general information and news on the Androscoggin River.

Maine Environmental Policy Institute (MEPI) is an independent non-profit organization that seeks to help the people of Maine “understand the importance of  healthy ecosystems to their families and communities.”  They do this by researching environmental challenges in the state and reporting their research to the public and policy makers.  MEPI’s website has a list of all the Maine environmental organizations as well an environmental news archive with articles from local Maine newspapers over the past two years.
