Community Development

The Androscoggin River Watershed Council works to improve environmental quality as a means of promoting healthy and prosperous communities along the river.  They do this by advocating and supporting sustainable development, providing environmental education to local communities, encouraging collaboration for sustainable planning between communities and states and encourage active involvement in grassroots environmental activities.

The Androscoggin Land Trust conserves over 4,650 acres of land, including riverfront land along the Androscoggin River, in an effort to conserve important natural areas and encourage positive outdoor experiences.  The organization’s website contains information on natural areas, recreation, and working lands, land conservation projects, news and events.

Androscoggin River Alliance is a small non-profit organization comprised of concerned citizens who are seeking to improve the water quality of the Androscoggin River in an effort to improve the riverside communities and jobs.   They do this by working with actors at many levels, including individuals, communities, organizations, and local, state, and federal governments.  The goal of this organization is to give a collective voice to the Androscoggin River Valley in political, planning and management decisions relating to the river. This website contains news articles on the Androscoggin River Alliance’s activities in the area, an archive with more information relating to the river, a historic slideshow, a photo gallery and links to other organizations along the river.
