The Five-2-Farm non-profit, and its parent community organization Grow L+A, seeks to transform the currently empty and unused space of Bates Mill 5 into a vibrant and energized food hub for the city of Lewiston. Located downtown in the mill district, the building once played a key role in the economic growth and stability of the city. Through renovating and repurposing Mill 5, Five-2-Farm hopes to restore the Mill’s key role in the community. Collaborating with Five-2-Farm, the student research projects focus on: (1) potential renewable energy
production (low-head hydraulic power and low-intensity solar power) at the Mill, as well as some of the potential uses for this power and (2) the information needed to create a final business plan that will be
presented to potential investors and other interested parties. |
