Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC): Lewiston Falls Dam Relicensing

This group researched the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) relicensing process, specifically as it applies to the Great Falls dam in between downtown Lewiston and downtown Auburn.  By damming rivers energy companies are essentially privatizing a public good.  Because of this, energy companies that own and operate dams are required by law to provide recreation opportunities to the communities where the dam is located. However, if the community isn't persistent in asking the dam company to provide these opportunities, oftentimes they do not materialize.  This project focused on finding successful strategies for community organizations, NGOs, and individuals to ensure that dam companies were providing the best recreation opportunities possible.
